Any person who is into their electric guitar will have heard people talk of Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. Paul Gilbert rarely gets a mention but this guy is fantastic at the guitar.
I was fortuante enough to see Paul at a guitar clinic where he talked about his guitar playing and his path in life to where he is today. He has some very interesting stories!
Paul is famous for being in the band Mr Big as well as Racer X. He is huge over in Japan and most of his touring has been over that side of the world – hence he is not so well known here.
Fortunately he is now breaking into touring here in the UK. Recently supporting Satriani, he performed amazingly, illustrating what a fantastic guitar playing ability he has. Now he has announced a string of shows across the UK. Tickets are amazingly cheap and the venues are not massive so you really will get an up and close view of tremendous guitar playing.
One of my favorite songs so far is “Technical Difficulties”. Paul introduced this song at the guitar clinic as a song that was technically difficult to play – hence the name. He did not play this when supporting Satch though! Another is a great cover of “Fly me to the Moon”. Performed so well.
Check him out on youtube and you will not be disappointed.
